Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer private family vacations or cruises?

We don’t offer private family vacations or cruises. We specialize in group trip packages to destinations where we add the most value—places that are more difficult to plan on your own. Our focus is on making complex travel easy, enjoyable, and seamless for our travelers.

How far in advance do you post new trips?

We typically post new trips about 10 months before departure. This timing allows us to secure the best possible airline contracts for our valued clients. Since airlines release their schedules around 11 months in advance, we use that window to find competitive airfare and build our tours around those savings—helping you get the best value for your trip.

How many people are in a group?

At Jensen McKay Tours, we’re committed to keeping our group sizes small—always limited to just one bus, with an average of 30 travelers. Because with Jensen McKay, you’re never just a number—you’re a friend joining us on the adventure of a lifetime.

Can I book the trip for my friends?

Absolutely! You’re welcome to book on behalf of your friends! Just keep in mind that if you do, we’ll only have your contact information for the group. That means it’s your responsibility to either:

  1. Forward all important emails and updates to your friends, or

  2. Call us with their contact info so we can keep them in the loop directly.

We’re happy to communicate with everyone—just let us know what works best!

What happens after I book?

Once your deposit is in, your spot is officially reserved—congrats! You’ll receive a confirmation email, and from there, the countdown to your adventure begins. Please make sure we have the correct email and that you receive the confirmation email when you book. If you don't see it- check your spam/junk mail.

Keep an eye on your inbox for important updates and helpful resources. These will include travel tips, what to expect on your Jensen McKay tour, frequently asked questions, and reminders—like checking your passport validity and considering travel insurance (especially if you want coverage for pre-existing conditions).

We’ll guide you every step of the way to make sure you feel prepared and excited for the journey ahead!

How/When do I pay?

To reserve your spot, a non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. After that, you’ll receive an invoice via email from us with the exact balance due and the date it’s due. This timing is also listed in the tour description on our website.

Final payments must be made by check, and the mailing address will be included on your invoice.

Can I book my own air?

Yes, you’re welcome to book your own flights—but please contact us as soon as possible to let us know. We’ll apply a flight credit (equal to the cost of the group airfare) to your final invoice. It’s important to notify us right away, as flights are the first thing we book after your non-refundable deposit is received.

Can I pick my seats?

If you’re flying with Delta, yes– you can usually choose your seats in advance by going to delta.com. Just use the six-digit confirmation number (included in the packet of information sent by Jensen Mckay Tours 6 weeks before your tour) along with your last name to log in and select your seats.

For most other airlines, free seat selection ahead of time isn’t always guaranteed. Some may assign seats at check-in, or charge a fee if you want to pick them earlier. You’re welcome to contact the airline directly to see what your options are, but keep in mind that there may be an extra cost involved.

If you’re looking to upgrade, there will be an additional cost. Just contact our office and we’ll be happy to provide a quote and help with the options. If you decide to upgrade, be ready to make your decision and have your credit card handy– the prices can change quickly, so booking the same day helps lock it in.

Tip: When you check in at the airport, feel free to kindly ask the agent if your preferred seat (like a window or aisle) is available. They’re often willing to help if there’s space– it never hurts to ask!

Can I add my Known Traveler Number (KTN) or my frequent flyer number?

Absolutely, please call or text your number ASAP after booking your trip and we would be happy to add it to your flight reservation!

What’s the weather going to be like?

Since we organize trips all around the world, weather can vary quite a bit depending on your destination and travel dates. For the most accurate and up-to-date forecast, we recommend checking weather.com or simply Googling the weather for your specific location and travel dates.

Is my credit card accepted?

That depends on the country you’re visiting, but in general, most major credit cards– especially Visa– are widely accepted in many parts of the world. American Express, however, tends to be less commonly accepted.

Before you travel, it’s a good idea to call your credit card company to let them know where you’ll be using your credit card. This can help prevent transactions from being flagged as suspicious or blocked. While you’re at it, ask if your card charges international transaction fees.

How do I get the local currency?

The easiest and most convenient way to get local currency is to order it in advance from your bank before your trip. Many banks offer foreign currency exchange service– just call or go in to place an order, and give yourself a few business days for it to arrive. This way, you’ll have cash in hand when you land, which is much less stressful than trying to find an ATM or currency exchange after a long flight.

Once you’re abroad, you’ll be responsible for getting additional currency during your own free time. While ATMs and exchange kiosks are usually available, keep in mind that your host and guide can’t guarantee immediate access to local currency upon arrival. Having some cash ready from the start ensures you’re covered for tips, small purchases or emergencies right away.

How much cash should I bring?

It really depends on the country that you’re visiting, as costs and cash usage vary. That said, it’s always a good idea to have some local currency on hand for tips (we’ll send you tipping guidelines before your trip), small souvenirs, snacks or purchases from places that may not accept credit cards.

We recommend bringing a little extra for unexpected expenses, and setting aside about $200-$300 USD worth of local currency as an emergency cushion. This doesn’t mean you’ll definitely need it, but it’s reassuring to have just in case.

Most cases accept credit or debit cards, but having some cash gives you flexibility and peace of mind.
