Day 3. Visit the city of Madaba, known for its stunning mosaics, located 30 minutes south of Amman on the King's Highway. The main attraction is the Greek Orthodox Basilica of St. George, also referred to as the Church of the Map, which features a well-preserved mosaic map of the region of Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt. Next, travel to Mount Nebo, believed to be the resting place of Moses. The mountain overlooks the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, West Bank, and Jerusalem and features a Byzantine Church built in the 4th century to commemorate Moses' death. This is also the spot where Moses is said to have viewed the "Land of Canaan".
Day 4. Experience the beauty of the world-renowned "Pink-Rose City" or the "Lost City," Petra, one of the new seven wonders of the world. Today, embark on a magnificent walking tour through the ancient ruins of Petra, dating back to 300 BC, and marvel at the intricate carvings the Nabateans made from solid rock. Take in the breathtaking view of the Treasury Building (Al-Khazneh) as you walk through the Siq, a narrow passage that opens up to reveal this stunning structure. Explore the Roman Theatre, the Palace of Pharaoh's Daughter, the Carved Roman Theater, the Royal Courts, and the oldest Cathedral of the Bishop's throne.
Day 5. Cross the border from Jordan into Jerusalem. Next, visit the Western Wall, the rough, massive stone retaining wall of the second temple. Revered and honored, the Jews wait and pray for the day they will rebuild their final Temple upon these sacred remnants. Above the wall on Mount Mariah is the Islamic Shrine, the Dome of the Rock. Next off to Mount Zion to see Caiaphas house of judgment and the nearby Upper Room. You will next enter the oldest quarter of Jerusalem to visit the pool of Bethesda, the Via Dolorosawith its stations of the cross, and lastly the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
Day 6: Today, visit the remarkable BYU Jerusalem center. The full length windows of the chapel reveal a breathtaking view of the old city and the temple mount. Next, discover the treasures of the Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls and the stunning model city of old Jerusalem. One of the most moving sites to visit is Yad Veshem, the official memorial to the 6 million Jews who perished in the holocaust during World War II. Next is the sacred visit to the Garden Tomb where many come to see that the tomb is empty, HE HAS RISEN.
Day 7. Start the day off with a special visit to the Garden of Gethsemane at the base of the Mt. of Olives. Enjoy time to reflect on what took place here. Today begin your day with a wonderful visit to Bethlehem, and remember the glorious birth of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Here we will sing Christmas carols and glory in the birth of the Son of God. This afternoon, enjoy some free time in the old city to shop or explore on your own.
Day 8. Today we make our way south through the Jordan River Valley. Our first stop will be at the ancient Tel of Bet She’an where 6000 years of civilization seems to unfold among the ruins. Here the King of Israel, Saul, met his fate at the hands of Philistines.
Next, travel to the lowest point on earth– the Dead Sea. Here you will have a chance to float in the Salt Sea. From the desert floor ascend by cable car to the spectacular clifftop fortress of Masada, where a community of over 900 Jews preferred death by their own hands, to the indignity of surrender to the overwhelming Roman forces.
Day 9. This morning, stand at the Mt. of Beatitudes where Jesus preached the great Sermon on the Mount.
Next sail on the Sea of Galilee to view the area of Jesus’ early ministry. Finish the day at the Jordan River and rejoice in the Baptism of Christ and hear the words “This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Day 10. Mount Tabor is one of the mountains traditionally claimed to be the site of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Here you will feel the peace and calm of this site as you remember Christ meeting with His Father. Journey next to Nazareth, the quaint town where the glorious announcement was made “For unto you a Child shall be born."
Day 11. Today we visit Megiddo, the tragic site of the ancient bloody battles where nations were won and lost. Upon the same tragic fields a great and terrible last battle Armageddon will be fought. Enter Caesarea, remains of a city founded by Herod, residence of Pontius Pilate and a prison for the apostle Paul. Enter the well-preserved amphitheater overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and hear the story of Paul’s conversion of the Centurion.
